What is Crime Prevention?
It is pattern of attitudes and behaviors directed at reducing the threat of crime and enhancing the sense of safety and security. Crime Prevention positively influences the quality of life in our society and helps to develop environments where crime cannot flourish.
Crime Prevention Goals:
- To reduce crime or the fear of crime.
- To enhance the knowledge of citizens and police officers in respect to community pro-active Crime Prevention strategies.
- To develop tactics and strategies which will create and maintain vital community successful Crime Prevention programs.
- To enhance the safety and the quality of life for Colorado Springs citizens.
Crime Prevention Officers
The Colorado Springs Police Department divides the city into 4 sections. Each of these sections has 1 Crime Prevention Officer. Their contact information is below.

What do Crime Prevention Officers Do?
Neighborhood Watch
Collectively we manage 800 Neighborhood Watch Groups in the City of Colorado Springs. Please see the Neighborhood watch link if you are interested in starting your own Neighborhood Watch Group
Trainings
We offer trainings throughout the year on anything crime prevention related. These classes vary in time but are always free to the public. If you have a minimum of 10 people and would like a private training for your group please contact your divisional CPO. For full listing of classes please click on the link to the left.
Home and Business Security
We also offer home a business security checks in the city limits of Colorado Springs. These checks, done with the home or business owner, follow guidelines of nationally recognized CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) principles. We are also available to answer questions or concerns about crime related incidents.
